We have seen a change in transportation recently. While the majority of people in the western world seemed most interested in travelling via automobile, in the last couple of decades many people have been choosing the bicycle as their primary mode of transportation. Perhaps the trend can be put down to 'green' thinking, or maybe just the prices of gas are starting to get to people. The fact is there are plenty more cyclists on the road now than there were just a few years ago. Have you been tempted to use a bike for your everyday transport needs? We’d be lying if we tried to tell you that fashion shouldn’t play into your choice. Our preferences are reflected in color and style choices. These preferences must be listened to when getting your next bike. Obviously, the style and fashion elements of the bicycle should not be your top priority (unless the bicycle is just for show). Evaluating your choices according to safety and comfort will be the best first step. After ensuring both safety and comfort, see which ones you like the actual design of best. Which handlebars to go with is also a serious decision. Not all handlebars are the same. Those handlebars which extend horizontally out offer great control for maneuvering. These handlebars will also distribute your weight over a big area. If you plan to use your bike for racing you will likely want to go with a different type of handlebar, such a handlebar is thinner and allows you to lean over the bike while you ride, this makes you more streamlined and allows you to cycle faster. For those of us who only plan to use our bikes sporadically, you may wish to go with a handlebar style that is comfortable and yet easily stored away.

The angle of your seat (also called the saddle) is also important. The seat is designed to be tilted any way you want it to. Most people find a seat that is flat to be a bit too uncomfortable, so they tilt it the way that feels the best. Always choose the most comfortable position for your seat. You could leave it as it is, but the narrow part of the seat might not allow you to rest comfortably in a forward leaning position. Several different factors play into how you are going to choose the right bicycle. Will this be an activity that you enjoy daily, or will you only be taking your bicycle out on special occasions? Which height of bike is the most comfortable fit for you? Would you rather have room between your feet and the ground or would you rather be able to touch the ground with your feet redirected here when you come to a stop?
